As the move toward a hydrogen economy gathers pace, the pipe that carries it matters. Hydrogen is a small, mobile molecule, and gas leakage is a real issue in long-distance transport.
The Fluid Highway® has been tested with a highly impermeable plastic internal liner shown to greatly restrict gases such as hydrogen and carbon dioxide from permeating the pipe wall. Work continues to develop pipe specifically engineered to be impermeable to hydrogen.
Combined with resistance to brittle fracture at very low temperatures, that impermeability is why we believe composite pipe belongs in the hydrogen conversation.
